“This show brings together pieces of work from the past four years that symbolize tranquility and isolation. They were not necessarily created to be shown together, but as I specifically chose each piece I was overwhelmed with the feeling of a desolate, though comforting, place.” – Casey Weibust

HANNAH ANTALEK: ARTIST’S STATEMENT

In my work I tend to gravitate towards the exploration of the polarities between what we find cliché or kitsch and what we decide to call beautiful. Using bright, often tacky colors and juxtaposing different aesthetic and symbolic elements to highlight this visual disparity my work is often a critique on contemporary culture as well as the environment in which I grew up.

I am a current sophomore at the Rhode Island School of Design studying painting with a concentration in contemporary art history. In addition to exhibiting my own work I am the co-president of the Brown/RISD Hillel Gallery and regularly organize and curate exhibitions for local, regional and international artists.
My prices are open to negotiation and I am also available for commissioned work.
